PAD Award: Mary Jane Jacob

Thursday, February 11, 6 - 7 pm Regency C, Gold Level, West Tower, Hyatt Regency, Chicago The PAD award for achievement in the field of public art is given annually to an individual whose contributions have greatly influenced public art practice. The inaugural award was presented in 2009 to artist Suzanne Lacy. We are honored to announce this year's recipient, Mary Jane Jacob. An internationally recognized critic, curator and educator, Jacob will receive PAD's second annual award. Ms. Jacob's distinguished career includes the curation of seminal exhibitions that recast the boundaries of public art, such as Charleston's Places with a Past, Chicago's Culture in Action, and Atlanta's Conversations at The Castle. A certificate of merit and a lifetime membership to PAD will be awarded to Ms. Jacob at the program, "Mary Jane Jacob: A Peopled Practice," which will immediately follow our annual business meeting (5:30 - 6 pm in the same location). Mary Jane Jacob will give a presentation on her work and then engage in what is sure to be a lively dialogue. The event is open to PAD members and the public. For more on Ms. Jacob's current work please refer to the Recent Publications section of this newsletter, which features a link to her newest book, the co-edited anthology Learning Mind: Experience into Art (University of California Press, 2009). Please help us to name the third recipient of the PAD award, and send us your nominations. Forward the name of your 2011 nominee along with a brief statement of support to Juilee Decker ([email protected]), membership coordinator, by May 1, 2010.
